Well, or at least I think it’s does. Like a few peeps I know, I frequent the Apple trailer website. I’m liking some of the posters more than the actual plot of the movies they advertise, but nonetheless, it’s sparking some interest. Hence, the post.
Something that caught my eye were the “poster” thumbnails that just give you a hint of Saul Bass in them. Not a lot, but I personally think there’s some inspiration somewhere along those lines. You tell me if you agree or disagree.
I just logged onto facebook to check some messages before I head to work. Most of the bar ads that take up the 160 x 600 pixel space on the right usually doesn’t get my attention. But today, it did.
Alrighty, I know. It’s been a while. It’s about time for an update.
The topic of tattoos came up again among a few friends and mine was getting confused looks and people started to delve into questions about it. The expected, “What does it mean?” came up. I thought, okay, I’ll give the whole schpeel about it and if people (online) ask me about it, then i’ll just send them this link. hah. right.
picture time!
Photo part 1: Tattoo as is.
Photo part 2: Explanation.
Okay, there are a couple of things. But what it boils down to, It’s mine and Chris’s initials. Insert “aww…” or *barf* here.
I had a couple of stipulations when I told chris I would tattoo our initials on my body. As it’s well, permanant, unless go for 10 laser removal sessions costing who knows how much that would cost.
Anyhoo, I wanted the following…
Must be:
2 colours max
discreet of the letters: C, W, V, H
“designy-interesting”
my kind of thing
So the final result as shown above is what transpired on May 25, 2007. Photo part 2 shows how the letters (rotated, flipped, whatever) are laid out in the design. And yes, it is an illustrator brush. Only one person who’s seen it has asked if it was a brush setting. He called me a nerd after I confirmed.
On to the meaning.
it boils down to commitment. But I do look at it and see the steps, smooth and rocky, to eachother aka “journey to life and love together”.
During a recent trip down south to Seattle, I saw the Hatch Show Print exhibit at Experience Music Project. I actually forgot this display was being featured at EMP, so I was quite excited when I saw it. I intended to buy a souvenir poster down in the gift shop, but alas, there weren’t any left. Instead, I opted for the book that tells the history behind the Nashville, Tennessee print shop. I fell in love with the traditional style of the shop still doing it all by hand. Carving out designs, using blocks that they’ve accumulated over the years and the strong impact of the colour seperations. *sigh*
Anyhoo, after the exhibit, I put Nashville of all places on my list of places I have to go to (which surprised Chris). At the moment, it’s solely to visit the shop. I’m sure there’s other attractions I should make an appoint to visit. LOL
Back to this Dust Jacket Love thing. One of the things I always do when I get a hardcover book is to see what the book looks like without the dustjacket. Sometimes I fancy the cloth cover more than the dust jackets. The dust jackets end up in a box, somewhere in my closet. Except this one. The photos below will explain what I mean.
Yeah, how book design sexy is that? Hahaha…the Dust Jacket opens up to be a poster and well, I’m making space to put it on my wall. One of my goals this summer is to clean up my computer room and use it as a design/study studio and plaster these posters around it. I’m not entirely sure if it’s a great idea at this point since I’ll be moving out next year. Oh well. It’ll get a year’s worth of wall space.
Back to the book: Best $35 book I’ve ever bought (so far).
i wish these were mine, but sadly, they are not. However, Scott Urban from Urban Spectacles is on my list of “one day i will own ________ made by _________” list. These ones are made from an atypical vinyl record that shows off a glassiness/layered stone look. His big thing is wooden frames and some of them are to die for. love love love it!
i know some people would feel an iffyness about investing in wooden frames, but come on! They look awesome and i don’t imagine them to be very heavy either. *sigh*
I don’t change my wallpaper on my desktop often, but I’ve decided that every time i do change it, I’ll post about it. Mainly because it doesn’t happen very often. Currently, I’ve got a screen cap of a Pomme Chan piece but the latest is a wallpaper I found off AisleOne
“Rome was not built in a suit”
LOVE. the colour combo warms my heart. hahaha…
I may end up frequenting this site for future wallpapers, but nonetheless. buhbye pomme chan (for now) and hello AisleOne.
hmm…after talking to a few people tonight. i think i already have my major project in line for next year. yayness? it’s possible. will keep you all updated.
My recent shoulder injury has swollen up and well, it’s hard to drive properly, so i’m not gonna risk it. So it’s break time and I saw this “green-ish” vase and thought it’d be something I’ll share. Especially since I haven’t made much of an effort lately to keep this thing going.
introducing…
the bic pen vase!
Created from designers Jess Giffin and Jim Termeer and available at Design Boom. As much as i like the innovatice idea of this “green” vase, I’m worried about the crappy fumes that had to be endured to make this. But then again, when they say “heated until malleable”, i think they did the boiling in water method – or at least i hope so.
i’m mucho excited! One of my fave books from my childhood is gonna be a movie! Yay! I’ve been waiting for some studio, heck, ANY studio to get this film going and finally! Spike Jonze directed it and co-wrote the screenplay, so it can’t be horrible, right?
Well, here’s the trailer for anyone who’s interested.
I don’t know about any one else. I’ve actually had dreams where everything in a dream was made from paper. Well, except people, but it was very D+D. White paper everywhere…then I found out about Peter Callesen, and well, he makes me feel two things:
1) How I miss playing with paper in a 3D sense
2) He’s crazy. I mean, look at his stuff! He makes our D+D paper projects look like crap! hahaha
Well, take a look for yourself and you’ll know what i mean.
